Decker Becoming Stronger Driver with New Race Team

Natalie Decker brought home a 12th-place finish in penultimate race of the 2016 season at State Park Speedway last Thursday night.

Despite grabbing a few wins earlier in the year, the midseason transition from racing the No. 04 car to racing the No. 36 the past few weeks has been a challenging task.
“We are still trying to find the issue with the 36 car on why the handling changes abruptly after it runs and handles pretty good for about 10 laps,” Decker said.  “It feels like something is wrong with the rear end so this week we will be doing some testing, hopefully Brian Back will find the answer.  Brian has been great to work with and is really smart with the car along with his racing experience so I have faith we will get it fixed for our last race at State Park this Thursday.”

Armed with New Car, Decker Pumped for ARCA MT Opener

Seventeen-year-old Late Model racer Natalie Decker is set to tackle the 2016 ARCA Midwest Tour season, which kicks off this Sunday with the Joe Shear Classic at Madison International Speedway.  Armed with a new car and high expectations, the Eagle River, Wisconsin driver is excited to get back on track.
“I am so excited to race the new Super Late Model,” said Decker.  “Chris Wimmer built the car with a victory circle chassis and my car chief Tom Ress has been working hard setting it up for the ARCA Midwest Tour race at Madison International Speedway.”

Decker had a chance to shake down her new No. 04 machine last week at State Park Speedway (WI), where she also plans to compete on a regular basis.  After a short practice session, Decker says she feels good about the new piece and is ready to tackle the half-mile that is Madison International Speedway.

“This will be the first time I have jumped into a new car so it will be fun shaking her down at Madison,” said Decker.  “Last week we took Ella, that’s her name, out on the track at State Park for her first ever test and I really liked the way she handled.”

The 18-year-old driver is no stranger to the tough competition of the ARCA Midwest Tour, so it’s no wonder she sets the bar high entering the season. She competed in a handful of events last year and earned a career best third-place finish at Norway Speedway (MI).

In last year’s Joe Shear Classic, Decker qualified 13th, but was forced to retire early with mechanical issues.  She hopes to get that turned around and start on a strong note this year.
“Heading into the first ARCAMT race my focus will be on qualifying the car into the race and working together with my crew chief Tom to communicate the handling so we get the car dialed in for the 100 lap race,” said Decker.  “I have high expectations for myself, so a successful race weekend would be taking home the win.  The ARCAMT has a very strong field of drivers and crew and I am really looking forward to competing with the best.”
