Decker Looks to Ride Late Season Success into Governor’s Cup

After a strong second-place run at Dells Raceway Park (WI) a few weeks ago, Natalie Decker decided her 2016 race season wasn’t finished just yet.  The Eagle River, WI driver has teamed up with Nason Motorsports and will travel south to run the 51st Annual Florida Governor’s Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway (FL).
“After the successful race finish at the Falloween 150, Fred Nason mentioned Governors Cup as a possibility for me to race once again with their team,” Decker said.  “The next step was to raise the funds and I had amazing support come through from fans to make it happen. The Nason Motorsports 04 hood will be sporting their names.”

This marks the second straight year Natalie Decker will make the trip from Wisconsin to Florida for the Governor’s Cup. Last year the 19-year-old driver qualified 34th and was involved in an early incident which ended her race early.

“I am still working on my qualifying and Nason Motorsports really helped me improve on that during the Falloween race,” Decker stated.  “Every time I get out on the track I always learn something and am really excited to go back to New Smyrna with Nason Motorsports.”

Even though this is only her second Governor’s Cup start, Decker is no stranger to the half-mile oval located in New Smryna Beach.  She has raced the past three straight Speedweeks, earning four top-10 finishes in 2015.

“New Smyrna Speedway has been one of my favorite tracks to race at because it is where I made my debut in a Super Late Model a few years ago. There is always great competition at the Governor’s Cup and I am looking forward to racing with the best.”

With just a handful of races under their belt together, Decker hopes she and her Nason Motorsports team can continue to build on the late season success they are having.

“Everyone on the crew is great to work with and we all trust each other which is very important when making adjustments for a faster car,” Decker said.   “A successful weekend would be a win for the team. The crew has been working hard on getting the car ready and we are looking forward to see how the car does right out of the trailer for Friday’s practice.”

The 51st Annual Governor’s Cup kicks off Friday afternoon with Super Late Model practice.  Qualifying will take place on Saturday before the 200-lap main event on Sunday afternoon.  Race fans can follow along with all of the action with Speed51.com’s Trackside Now coverage.
